Barrow Maglehoej

In the Bronze Age, the villages were built high up, Tryggevælde Å was wider than today and therefore one could sail right up to Hårlev. Along Tryggevælde å and Stevnsåen there have been living people since the Stone Age, which finds of settlements from ancient times has confirmed. 

Just north of Varpelev and Hellested is the burial mound Maglehøj, which is from about 3,200 BC.

The chamber is 6 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. The hallway to the chamber is 4 meters long. In 1823, Maglehøj was excavated and in this connection found several remains of graves. It was last restored in 1996, but is no longer open to visitors.
