Børnenes Læsøhistorier - en børnebog fra Lasse Mors

Author and journalist Lasse Mors has written five delightful bedtime stories about life on Læsø in days gone by.
Læsø's cultural history contains many fascinating tales, and this book aims to open up some of them for children.

Læsø's history and cultural history are filled with many fascinating tales. Some are true thrillers like the shipwrecks of the past, while others are as sweet as the gnomes in the Klitplantage.

History and cultural heritage

Læsø's salt production and Læsø's seaweed roofs have put Læsø on the path to becoming a World Heritage site, with its inclusion on UNESCO's tentative list in 2023. The salt production also has a central place in one of Lasse Mors' stories about Mikkel, a boy in the 13th century who helps with both the salt production and the practical work of gathering firewood.

About the Author...

Lasse Mors is the author of Children's Stories of Læsø and is himself a frequent visitor to Læsø.

Lasse Mors graduated in communication from the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus in 2019 and worked as an independent consultant until 2022. During that period, he published Children's Stories of Læsø (2021), his only book to date.

Lasse's connection to Læsø comes from his grandmother (grandma, but called grandmother in the family), who grew up on Tørkerivej between Vesterø and Byrum. Lasse's grandmother moved to the mainland when she met Lasse's grandfather, but Lasse's mother has been to Læsø almost every summer of her life—and so has Lasse.

The Idea for the Book...

The idea for Children's Stories of Læsø came from the bedtime stories Lasse was told by his grandparents when they spent summer vacations on the island together. This is also briefly mentioned at the back of the book in the section The Roots of the Book.

Read-Aloud...

Lasse is also a frequent visitor to Læsø and has read from the stories both at the library and on the Læsø ferry – always to the great enjoyment of the audience.
