Horsens Teaterfestival

Come and join a world of theatrical experiences as Horsens Municipality invites you to Denmark's largest performing arts festival for children and young people. Every year, on the third weekend of September, more than 35 performances can be enjoyed in the city center.

An abundance of family-friendly theatrical experiences

Horsens' own theatre festival offers a unique opportunity to witness a showcase of the best Danish theatre productions for children and youth. The festival features over 35 innovative performances by theater troupes from both Denmark and abroad. Shows and other program elements will take place at various cultural venues in the city center of Horsens—often free of charge, but registration may be required.

The city's children, youth, and adults can freely indulge in a wealth of fantastic theatre experiences. Simultaneously, the festival serves as a meeting point and sales platform for the industry, allowing cultural mediators and theater buyers to stay informed about the latest trends. The festival is an excellent opportunity to preview outstanding performances before making bookings for one's own productions.

What to experience

During the Horsens Teaterfestival, a significant portion of the city's venues and cultural institutions come alive with numerous performances held from Friday to Sunday. At FÆNGSLET, you can witness productions tailored for teenagers, while venues such as Horsens Ny Teater, the Culture Station (Kulturstationen), Håndværkerforeningen, local churches, schools, and open urban spaces serve as stages for performances aimed at children. The selection of performances and formats is diverse, catering to a wide range of tastes and interests.

Program and tickets

Efforts are underway year-round to curate the perfect program for the Horsens Teaterfestival. The program is finalized in July, and ticket sales for the general public open at the beginning of September. Some performances may require advance booking of tickets, which can be done through the Horsens Teaterfestival website.
