The gateway to Mols Bjerge
The town is located at the gateway to Mols Bjerge National Park, overlooking Kalø Vig and Mols Bjerge. Kalø Castle Ruin is just 2 km from the centre of Rønde and is a popular year-round destination for locals and tourists alike.
Kalø Castle was built on a deserted island in Kalø Vig, which was connected to the mainland via an artificial dam. Today, the dam is still part of the approximately 1.5 kilometre long road to the ruins. In the car park by the road to the ruin, vintage cars from all over the country gather every Tuesday afternoon. The site is also a year-round starting point for many activities and hikes in the nearby forests, which are rich in ancient monuments representing the entire period from the Stone Age to historical times.
Rønde is centrally located in Djursland with good bus connections to Grenaa, Aarhus, Randers and Ebeltoft.
